Hi there, my name is Curley’s wife. I know I know – I don’t have a name of my own. But that’s just how it is around here. I’m always referred to as “Curley’s wife,” like I don’t have an identity of my own.

I don’t have many friends on this ranch. The men are afraid to talk to me because they don’t want to get in trouble with my husband, the boss’s son. But honestly, I don’t like most of them anyway. They’re all just rough, crude guys who don’t really understand me.

I used to have big dreams, you know. I wanted to be a movie star, to be in the spotlight and have people admire me. But that dream never came true. So instead, I ended up marrying Curley, who’s always running around trying to prove how tough he is. He’s always suspicious of me, thinking I’m trying to flirt with the other guys on the ranch. But really, all I want is someone to talk to. Someone who understands me.

Sometimes I feel trapped here like there’s no way out. But I try to stay positive. I wear my fancy red shoes and lovely dresses and smile at the guys. But deep down, I’m just lonely. I wish someone would see me for who I am instead of just as “Curley’s wife.”
